Fumigation FCL - Stop „Halyomorpha Halys“

The brown marmorated stink bug (bot. "Halyomorpha halys"), which actually originates from East Asia, can now also be found in the USA and Europe. The bug is about 15 millimeters in size and damages fruit plants through sucking, which can lead to extensive crop failures. To prevent the pest from penetrating the Australian and New Zealand ecosystems, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture and Water Resources and the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries have imposed heightened biosecurity measures in form of a temporary treatment obligation for endangered goods.

The fumigation requirement for Australia shall apply to departures from Germany from 1 September 2019 until the arrival of the transport vessel in Australia on 31 May 2020.

The New Zealand fumigation requirement applies to departures from Germany from 1 September 2019 to 30 April 2020 inclusive.

We recommend that all FCL containers for Australia and New Zealand be treated with sulfuryl fluoride (SF) with immediate effect in order to keep delays and costs as low as possible for all parties involved.
