Export Nigeria

We would like to inform you about the actual situation in the Port of Lagos and the referring delays being experienced lately in unloading containers in Nigeria.

Several reasons contribute to this extraordinary situation

-The introduction of the new Customs System (NICIS2) instructing the deconsolidators to capture cargo values for all units in the port for the respective consignee

-Total gridlock of trucks in/out of port due to Apapa roads closure to trucks as a result of ongoing construction works . In and out of port easily sums up to 16 days.

-Industrial strikes by NARTO on the accounts of AP Moeller Terminal‘s new policies

-Nigerian Port Authority‘s new policy to Shipping Lines (Port no more to be used as empties holding bays)

Due to NICIS2 the actual customs districts play a role again, in order to reduce further delays, we already changed the service by calling Apapa instead of Tincan Island, since the warehouse we are using, is located in Apapa too. However the truck situation most likely remain unchanged. As this national problem is affecting all parties and unfortunately totally beyond our control, we recommend for all involved parties to plan with the actual delays and adapt orders in the delivery chain accordingly.
