New wood packing regulation Brazil


Effective B/L date February 1st 2016, the Brazil Ministry of Agriculture, through the Normative Instruction Nº. 32 of 09/23/2015 will mandatory request information about
wooden package material contained in every shipment entering or passing through Brazil. The instruction will apply to export, import, transshipment and in transit cargos (passage) through Brazil.

Thus, clients are obliged to submit details about the packaging for every shipment within the shipping instruction, informing following details:

1) Does the packaging contain wood? YES or NO

2) What kind of wooden package?

a. Wooden Package Material: Treated and Certificated; (treated material
and/or fumigated with certification)

b. Wooden Package Material : Processed; (processed material)

c. Wooden Package Material: Not applicable (absolutely no wooden material contained)

3) If the information is not mentioned in the Shipping Instruction (SI), the shipment is considered to contain NO wooden packaging.

Violation to the Normative Instruction 32 will result in Containers being prohibited to enter into or pass through Brazil. Container found to contain undeclared or wrongly declared wood packaging will be returned to origin, at the expense of the violating party.
